The American Lawn - September 2008 In This Issue: ¥ Next Spring's Lawn Begins Now! ¥ Fall Tree & Shrub Fertilization ¥ Is Your Soil Too Sweet & Sour? ¥ Don't Neglect the Watering ¥ Christmas is Coming Soon! Next Spring's Lawn Begins Now! We'll be applying our R6 Late Fall Weed-Control Treatment very soon, the final regular lawn treatment of the season. With this very important service, your lawn will be practically weed-free next early spring. The treatment consists of two products, both a pre and a post-emergent. The pre-emergent, Simazine, is unique in that it not only controls most small winter weeds that have germinated, but will also prevent others from germinating on into late fall. Only professionals can use this particular product, allowing us the flexability to apply the treatment anytime in October or November with success. The treatment needs to be watered into the soil if no rainfall occurs within a week of the treatment. We also include a post-emergent broadleaf herbicide, End Run, which controls dandelions that have emerged along with other winter broadleaf weeds. Fall Tree & Shrub Fertilization Late fall and early winter is the ideal time to fertilize trees and shrubs in your landscape. LawnAmerica offers a deep-root injection of liquid fertilizer into the root zone of your trees and shrubs. With this important service, your ornamentals will look and perform better next spring. You'll receive information and a price quote with your fall lawn treatment if you are not scheduled for this important service. We'll be starting this service in late November. You can sign up for this service by visiting our website at: www.LawnAmerica.com/shrubcare Is Your Soil Too Sweet & Sour? Is your soil pH OK? If not, winter is a great time to apply granular lime or sulphur to adjust the pH to the proper level of somewhere between 5.8 and 7.2, with 6.5 being ideal. In most cases, if the soil pH is off, it is too acidic, with a pH below 5.8. In this case, we would recommend several lime treatments to help bring it up to the proper level. We can provide a professional soil test on your lawn and send you the results for a $20 fee. Go to our website at www.LawnAmerica.com/soiltesting for more information and to signup for this service. Don't Neglect the Watering If you have seeded your fescue lawn this fall, make sure to continue watering on a regular basis. Even if seedlings have germinated, the root system is very small and limited so do not allow the top soil surface to dry out. Since the root system is still shallow, this is one time that just watering by hand lightly is OK to do. And if you have not overseeded fescue yet, there is still time to do that before mid-October.
